Hollywood and Hallandale Beach are some of South Florida's most underrated dog-owning territories. The Hollywood Broadwalk gives you 2.5 miles of paved oceanfront walking. The neighborhoods are mid-density — more space than Brickell, more foot traffic than Weston. The cost of living is lower than Aventura, the energy is calmer than Fort Lauderdale, and the dog-friendly infrastructure is better than most people realize.
If you own a dog here and you're using the area's assets, you have one of the best training environments in Broward. If you're not, you're missing the opportunity.
Here's how to use what's already in your backyard.
The Hollywood Broadwalk is a 2.5-mile paved oceanfront promenade that runs from Sheridan Street to Georgia Street. It's the single best long-distance training environment in southeastern Broward.
Why it works:
Hallandale Beach has its own oceanfront access and a much calmer feel than the Hollywood Broadwalk. North Beach Park, the South City Beach access points, the quieter residential pockets — all give you lower-distraction environments for foundation work and decompression.
The combination is powerful: build foundation skills in calm Hallandale environments, then proof them on the busier Hollywood Broadwalk. You have both extremes within a 10-minute drive.
Hollywood and Hallandale are mid-density. That matters for training because the environments scale naturally:
Downtown Hollywood and the Broadwalk both have growing dog-friendly café cultures. The patios are spacious, the staff are dog-tolerant, and the standards are more relaxed than Mizner Park or Coral Gables. This makes Hollywood an excellent intermediate proofing environment for the place command — busy enough to challenge the dog, calm enough not to overwhelm them.
The progression we recommend:
Level 1: A calm residential street café at 8 AM weekday. 15 minutes of place. Build to 30.
Level 2: A Hollywood Boulevard café at midday weekday. 20 minutes of place.
Level 3: A Broadwalk café on a Saturday afternoon. 30+ minutes of place with full ambient chaos.
By Level 3, the dog has handled Broward's busiest pedestrian corridor without breaking. That's a finished dog.
Hallandale and southern Hollywood have substantial boat communities. If you own a boat or you spend time on the Intracoastal, the same boat-dog standard from our Fort Lauderdale guide applies — crate confidence, recall on command, surface confidence, life vest tolerance.
The marinas in this area are smaller and more relaxed than the Fort Lauderdale scene, which actually makes them better training environments for dogs who are new to the boat life. Less chaos to navigate, more time to build confidence.
Hollywood and Hallandale share Miami's brutal summer climate. Pavement temps on the Broadwalk hit dangerous levels by 10 AM in summer. Every word of our heat safety protocol applies. Walk before 7 AM. Walk after 8 PM. Skip the midday Broadwalk sessions from June through September.
The ocean breeze does help slightly — Broadwalk surface temps can be 10 degrees cooler than inland sidewalks during the same hour — but it doesn't eliminate the danger. Trust the 7-second hand test, not your assumptions.
What we see most often:
If you live in Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, or anywhere in the southeastern Broward corridor, the assets are already there. The Broadwalk. The beaches. The mid-density neighborhoods. The marina life. They're underused by most owners.

Structure creates calm. Calm creates reliability. The Broadwalk has 2.5 miles to prove it.
The Broadwalk is busy at 6 PM — is that bad timing for training? Bad for foundation work. Excellent for advanced proofing. If your dog has solid skills and you want to test them, 6 PM Broadwalk is a real challenge. If you're still building foundations, train at 7 AM and use the evening for relaxed loose-leash work only.
Are the Hollywood Beach hotels actually dog-friendly? Some are, with restrictions. Margaritaville and the Diplomat have specific pet policies. Always call ahead. The outdoor restaurants along the Broadwalk are more flexible than most South Florida areas — Hollywood culture is genuinely dog-tolerant.
My condo overlooks the Intracoastal and my dog reacts to every passing boat — fixable? Yes. It's a window-watching habit that becomes alert barking, then becomes generalized reactivity. Block visual access to the windows during the day (frosted film on the lower portions, or simply close the blinds), redirect the dog to a place command when boats pass, and the behavior fades within 2 to 3 weeks.
The Broadwalk is dog-tolerant, but the unwritten rules matter:
