The Real Cost of Board and Train in Miami: What $3,499 Actually Buys You

The Question Every Owner Is Really Asking

When somebody calls Unleash'd K9 about our 4-week board and train in Miami, they almost never lead with the question they actually want answered. They ask about my methods, about my facility, about whether their dog is "fixable." But what they're really thinking is the same thing every smart consumer thinks: Three thousand five hundred dollars. What am I actually paying for?

Fair question. Here's the honest, line-by-line answer.

What $3,499 Buys You — The Hard Numbers

A 4-week board and train at Unleash'd K9 includes 28 days of training, structure, and 24/7 supervision. Let's break what that actually means.

28 Days of Daily Training Sessions

Your dog gets multiple training sessions every day — not one fifteen-minute walk and a bowl of food. We're talking obedience reps in the morning, place command work mid-morning, structured exposure outings in the afternoon, leash work, impulse control drills, and decompression in the evening. By the end of week one, most dogs are doing more focused training than they've done in their entire lives combined.

Real-World Exposure in South Florida

Training in a vacuum is useless. Your dog needs to learn how to behave in the actual environments you live in — Brickell sidewalks, Wynwood crowds, Las Olas patios, the Aventura Mall parking lot. We deliberately take dogs into hard environments because that's where the proofing happens. A dog that can hold a place command at a busy outdoor café in Coral Gables is a dog that can do it anywhere.

Behavior Modification (Not Just Obedience)

Most "trainers" only teach commands. We address the underlying behaviors — reactivity, anxiety, pulling, jumping, counter surfing, resource guarding, door dashing. The obedience commands are the language. The behavior change is the actual product.

Three Owner Transfer Sessions

This is the part nobody else talks about. Your trained dog is worthless if you don't know how to handle them. After the 28 days, you get three private transfer sessions where I teach you the system — how to give the commands, how to enforce structure, how to read your dog, how to maintain everything we built. If you skip this part, the training erodes within 60 days. That's why it's included.

Boarding, Food, and 24/7 Supervision

Your dog lives in our environment for 28 days. That includes lodging, feeding, exercise, and supervision around the clock. Compare that alone to Miami boarding rates ($75–$120/day at any quality facility) and you've already used $2,100–$3,360 of the price tag in pure boarding cost.

What You're Not Paying For

This is just as important. You are not paying for:

You're paying for one trainer, one system, one focused outcome.

The Math vs. the Alternatives

Let's compare. A serious owner in Miami has three real options for fixing a difficult dog:

Option 1: Weekly private lessons. Six sessions at $150 each = $900. But realistically, fixing a reactive or under-trained adult dog takes 12–20 sessions over 4–6 months. That's $1,800–$3,000. And the entire time, your dog still lives at home in the environment that created the problem. Progress is slow because the structure isn't constant.

Option 2: A cheap board and train. You'll find them on Craigslist for $1,500–$2,000. There's a reason. Less experienced handlers, less individual attention, often outdoor kennels in the South Florida heat, no real owner transfer. You get what you pay for, and what you don't pay for usually shows up two months later.

Option 3: Doing nothing and hoping it improves. This is the most expensive option of all. The cost is measured in years of frustration, the cost of the friend who doesn't visit anymore because your dog is unmanageable, the cost of the apartment complex that's about to evict you, and eventually the cost of rehoming a dog you swore you'd never give up.

When you run the math honestly, $3,499 for a structured 4-week transformation isn't expensive. It's the cheapest path to the outcome you actually want.

What Results Look Like

By the end of 4 weeks at Unleash'd K9, the average dog can:

Not "tricks." Behavior. The kind that makes a dog welcome anywhere you want to take them.

The Honest Caveat

Here's what nobody else will tell you: a board and train works because the structure continues at home. If you take a perfectly trained dog back into a chaotic, rule-free home, you will undo the work in 30–60 days. That's not a knock on board and train — that's how dogs work. They live by whatever rules their environment enforces.

That's why the three owner transfer sessions exist. That's why we offer the Alumni Program for ongoing maintenance. That's why we screen owners during the free assessment — if I don't think the home environment will hold the training, I tell you that before I take your money.

Is It Worth It?

If you've been struggling with your dog for six months or more, if you've already spent money on training that didn't stick, if you're seriously considering rehoming, if your dog is destroying your relationship with your family or your apartment building — then yes, $3,499 is the cheapest decision you'll make this year.

If your dog has a few minor manners issues and you have time and patience to do the work yourself, private sessions are a better fit. Same trainer, same system, lower commitment.

The right answer depends on the dog and the owner — which is exactly why every program at Unleash'd K9 starts with a free virtual assessment. I'd rather tell you the truth on a 30-minute call than sell you the wrong program.

Quick Answers to the Questions Owners Always Ask

"Can I visit my dog during the program?" No. Visits reset the dog's adjustment and slow the work. The 28 days are an immersive reset and the dog needs to be fully in the new environment without emotional spikes from seeing the owner. We send updates, photos, and videos throughout. Owners are always shocked at how quickly the dog stops missing them and starts thriving in the structure.

"What if my dog has medical needs?" Send the records during the assessment. We administer medications on schedule, follow feeding restrictions, and coordinate with your vet if anything comes up. We've worked with dogs on long-term medications, post-surgical recoveries, and dietary management plans.

"What if my dog is too aggressive for the program?" That's exactly the conversation we have at the assessment. Most aggression cases are appropriate for board and train. A small percentage require specialized handling we'll refer out. I'll tell you honestly which category your dog is in, and I'll never accept a case I don't think we can move the needle on.

"What does the schedule look like during the 28 days?" Each day includes multiple structured training blocks, real-world exposure outings, decompression and rest, and 24/7 supervision. Dogs are not in a kennel running all day — they're working, recovering, sleeping, and learning the rhythm of structured life.
